Facebook changes name to Meta: Mark Zuckerberg announces company to rebrand as it moves to the metaverse

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Thursday that Facebook will change its name to Meta to symbolize the company's developing interest on the metaverse.
"From now on, we'll be the metaverse first, not Facebook first," Zuckerberg stated Thursday at the business annual Connect conference. "Our brand is so closely associated with one product that it can't reasonably represent what we're doing today, let alone in the future."
Despite the fact that its concept is expanding to virtual environments where people engage via digital avatars, the corporation has stated that it would not change its organization structure. It will be denoted by the ticker symbol MVRS.
According to the corporation, Facebook and its apps Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp will be situated in a distinct division from Facebook Reality Labs, which creates the company's augmented and virtual reality products.
"We've gone from desktop to web to phones, from text to photographs to video, but this isn't the end," Zuckerberg remarked. "The next platform and media will be an even more immersive and embodied internet where you're in the experience rather than just looking at it, which we call the metaverse."
In a blog post, Zuckerberg said that the name meta is derived from the Greek word for "beyond."
"For me, it represents the fact that there is always more to construct and a new chapter to the story," he explained.
"With photo realistic avatars and locations, EMG input (gestures, wrist movements), holograms, and voice interactions, Zuckerberg outlined a tremendously ambitious vision for the Metaverse,"
